Books on Mussoorie

Mussoorie & Landour Days of Wine & Roses

By Ruskin Bond
The result of two decades of research, this volume on Mussoorie and Landour documents the daily life of this old English summer hill-town, which is today a popular hill resort for Indians. Ruskin Bond and Ganesh Saili 'go to town' literally, in trying to establish the antiquity of their beloved hometown.

Landour Days: A Writer's Journal

By Ruskin Bond
The habit of keeping a diary has led me into trouble more than once,’ writes Ruskin Bond in the introduction to this journal of a year in his hometown of Landour, Mussoorie. Bond is an inveterate diarist, but over the years he finds that the nature of what he wants to record has changed, for ‘In the autumn of my life, I grow reflective.’

The events are small in themselves: the daily happenings in Landour, the birds and flowers that each season brings, and the eccentricities of friends and family. Landour itself is a magical world—where every month has its own flower, every walker his own style, and the countryside is filled with a beauty all its own—though uninvited guests will intrude and evenings at the Savoy Bar are not always as peaceful as they might be … But in his mind Bond ranges further afield. He ponders on the experience of being a writer, on writers he has known and those he loves reading, and on critics, handwriting and typewriters.

Filled with warmth and gentle humour, this book captures the timeless rhythm of life in the mountains, and the serene wisdom of one of India’s best loved writers.

Carrying Capcity Of Mussoorie

By Ramachandran H and Nira Ramachandran
Carrying Capacity, within a given resource base, is the maximum rate of resource consumption and waste discharge that can be sustained indefinitely. It is a quantitative concept, involving parameters such as population (including both permanent and seasonal) and its future projection, landuse, water supply, living accommodation for population, public health services, waste disposal, education, electricity, transport, communication and so on, the optimum requirements to be projected for a reasonable quality of living level. It is however, the resource in least supply, which provides the critical limit of Carrying and hence, of Growth.

This study has adopted a participatory approach , identifying the residents and various interest groups’ perception and prioritization of problems.

Roads to Mussoorie

By Ruskin Bond
Description: Ruskin Bond emerges again, with a delightful set of sketches set in and on the way to his beloved Mussoorie. With an endearing affection and nostalgia for his home of over forty years, Mr Bond describes his journeys to and from Mussoorie over the years, and then delves into the daily scandals surrounding his life and friends in the (not so) sleepy hill town. The pieces in this collection are characterised by an incorrigible sense of humour and an eye for ordinary-and most often unnoticed-details that are so essential to the geographic, social and cultural fabric of a place.
